Sky Shards tracker guide

Understand today's prediction, the difference between red and black shards, how eruption windows work and what to check before entering a realm.

What are Sky Shards?

Sky Shards are recurring events in Sky: Children of the Light. During an eruption, fragments from the Eye of Eden fall into one predetermined area of a realm. Players travel to that location, burn the surrounding Darkness and complete the activity to receive a reward.

The system began with the Season of Shattering and later became a permanent part of the game. A shard does not necessarily appear every day. Its type, realm, location and eruption windows are tied to the current Sky date.

This Sky Shards tracker calculates the current community prediction and presents the useful result first: whether a shard is expected, where it should land, what it may reward and how long remains until the next window.

How to read today's Sky Shards result

The live card answers the questions players usually have before starting a run. All times are converted to the timezone reported by your browser, while the underlying date follows Pacific Time. That is why the Sky date can change before or after your local midnight.

  • Shard type: red, black or no shard today.
  • Realm and exact area where the eruption is predicted to land.
  • Expected reward category: Ascended Candles or regular candle wax.
  • Current status, next landing time and live countdown.
  • A clear message when today's final eruption window has ended.
  • Recent Sky dates for quickly comparing the current rotation.

Red shards and black shards

A red shard is a Strong Eruption. It can include dangerous radiant fragments, Darkness Plants and aggressive Shattering Crabs. Clearing it may reward Ascended Candles and can open access to a Shard Memory after the activity is completed.

A black shard is a Regular Eruption. It is generally less dangerous and normally rewards regular candle wax instead of Ascended Candles. It does not normally provide the same Shard Memory access as a red shard.

Both types require players to reach the correct location and clear enough Darkness before the active period ends. Rewards are generally available once per Sky day, even if another eruption window appears later.

  • Red shard: higher difficulty, Ascended Candle reward and possible Shard Memory access.
  • Black shard: lower difficulty and regular candle wax reward.
  • No shard: the community schedule predicts no eruption for the current Sky date.

How Sky Shard times work

Shard schedules use America/Los_Angeles as their Sky-time reference. That timezone moves between Pacific Standard Time and Pacific Daylight Time, so memorizing a single UTC offset can produce the wrong local time after a daylight-saving change.

The tracker determines the current Sky date, calculates the predicted type and location, and converts every eruption window into your local timezone. When a window is active it shows when the event should end; before a window it shows the predicted landing time and a countdown.

The result is a community prediction rather than official live server data. A game patch, special event or newly observed correction can occasionally change a time or location.

How to find today's shard in game

Check both the realm and the specific location shown above. The realm tells you which portal to enter; the location identifies the area inside that realm. Some locations sit away from the main route or use a familiar community name.

  • Open the predicted realm shortly before the next landing window.
  • Look for the affected portal, a darkened sky or the eruption message.
  • Travel to the exact area listed by the tracker, not only the realm entrance.
  • Burn the Darkness while protecting your cape energy.
  • For a red shard, avoid radiant fragments and Shattering Crabs.
  • Complete the collection activity and claim the reward before leaving.

When to check Sky Shards

Open the tracker before a daily candle run so you can route through the affected realm at the right time. If the countdown is short, travel there first; if the next window is later, complete quests or another realm while you wait.

The recent history helps explain how types and locations rotate across Sky dates. It is also useful when comparing the prediction with an in-game sign or a community report.

  • When the sky turns red but you do not know which realm is affected.
  • When you need Ascended Candles and want the next red shard.
  • When you want extra wax from a black shard during a candle run.
  • When a location name is unfamiliar or a final window may still remain.
  • When your local time changed after a daylight-saving transition.

How accurate is the Sky Shards tracker?

The tracker applies a deterministic community schedule to the current Sky date. Under normal conditions it can predict the expected shard type, realm, location, reward category and eruption windows without contacting a game server.

SkyCOTL.tools is fan-made and is not affiliated with thatgamecompany. When precise timing matters, compare the prediction with current in-game signs or a recent community report.

Before leaving for a shard, confirm that the date, realm and next window still match the live card. Allow a few minutes for travel, especially when the location is deep inside a realm. If the expected signs do not appear, wait for the landing time, check the realm portal again and look for a recent community correction before changing your route.

Questions players ask

Short answers, without making you convert another time zone.

Where are the Sky Shards today?

The live tracker shows today's predicted realm and exact location. If the current Sky date has no eruption, it displays No shard today.

Is today's Sky shard red or black?

The result card identifies the predicted type. Red shards are Strong Eruptions that may reward Ascended Candles; black shards are Regular Eruptions that normally reward candle wax.

Are Sky shard predictions official?

No. The rule was discovered and maintained by community contributors. Game updates and manual corrections can change a day's result.

How many shard windows happen in a day?

On a predicted shard day, the rule produces three windows. Red shard groups repeat every six hours; black shard groups repeat every eight hours.

What do red and black shards reward?

Red shards can reward Ascended Candles. Black shards reward regular candle wax. Exact results depend on the event and successful completion.

Why does the Sky Shards date differ from my local date?

The schedule follows America/Los_Angeles time. In other timezones, the Sky date can change several hours before or after local midnight.
